no one in this town likes pop-punk cool kids like their garage punk if your band has fuzzy vocals you'll be a hit with all the locals I only care for melodies interesting words like spelling bees occasionally have something to say it looks like we'll never be big and famous it looks like we’ll be forever labeled the lamest we’re not going anywhere damn good thing that we don’t care not here to impress no one we’re only doing this for fun some hate our songs about politics others hate the tunes about pretty chicks there’s something for everyone to hate they say our moment passed us by it’s 2013, not 1995 what’s the point in keeping pop-punk alive? it looks like we have skipped a few rehearsals it looks like our songs won’t be in commercials [chorus]

infinite growth on a finite planet and it’s not gonna work too well, we all have something burning deep inside our brains this way of life that we perpetuate cannot sustain hitting peak oil still we seek oil fossil fuels are going the way of the dinosaur infinite growth on a finite planet and it’s not gonna work too wells are running dry the earth is cooking in the heat population soaring, our experiment complete well, we refuse to reduce our refuse we got a vortex of trash in the Pacific Ocean the size of Texas, y’all infinite growth on a finite planet and it’s not gonna last too long ago we missed the chance to study and revise but we don’t look for warning signs we only look at bottom lines

I’m heading back into that deep and dark chasm I’m doing super-duper (that was sarcasm) I’m never gonna get it right I’ll never be too good at life I’m old enough to know you ride the waves I’ve never been the best at being brave it’s hard for some to understand everybody’s dealt a different hand and do you ever get the feeling you’re only running out your time on Earth? you’re aching for a life of meaning, significance, and worth? Been called a downer and a negative nancy it’s true I’m anxious and a little bit antsy I wish that I could just relax ignore the inconvenient facts too fucking smart to accept the status quo too dumb to do anything about it, so I get the worst of both worlds and do you ever get the feeling you’re only running out your time on Earth? you’re aching for a life of meaning, significance, and worth? and I ache for a life of meaning.
4.
I gotta get closer to you closer to you every single day when you’re in Connecticut I wish you were in Austin and when you’re at work I wish you were home and when you’re asleep I wish you were awake because I never wanna leave you alone when you’re on one side of the couch and I’m on the other you know I gotta get you on my side of the couch so that I can smother you (chorus) I know you better than anyone still a lot is hidden that’s all right, we’ve got our whole lives peel back the layers like a sexy little onion and hope you never make me cry when I wonder what’s on your mind and it’s partly clouded I know I gotta work on reading your mind to know all about it no matter where you go I always want to be close no matter where you are, I prefer to not be far (chorus)
5.
you look at gender as an average of a set regrettably you’re often gonna wind up upset ’cause sexuality’s a spectrum, there are so many shades not everybody fits your little black and white cage run and tell your pop and we can do the gender binary bop let people be themselves and let them live their own lives stop reinforcing all your gender stereotypes’ cause if it’s OK for a boy, then it’s OK for a girl let’s shoot for an enlightened and more tolerant world run and tell your pop and we can do the gender binary bop we’ll shop until we drop and then we’ll do the gender binary bop karate chop a cop and we can do the gender binary bop!

you’re the tops the cream of the crop walk into a room my little rockin’ heart stops I don’t want to miss a moment of it when you kiss and hold me tight you got the look a bad-ass cook play your vinyl records and you read your paper books you’re so erudite wanna hang out every night with you I don’t know how I ever got ahold of you but I know you got a hold on me you got a hold on me(x3) now it’s plain to see that I gotta hold onto you ‘cause if you went my days would be spent in sorrow and despair and also I could not make rent I’ll stay with you forever if you say that you would never do me wrong I’m set to go for life although, you should be aware I rarely have very much dough pop-punk doesn’t pay the bills but I love you so say you will be mine I don’t know how I ever got ahold of you but I know you got a hold on me you got a hold on me(x3) now it’s plain to see that I gotta hold onto you

something like 7.146 billion people on the Earth impossible to calculate my total lack of worth when such a small percentage will ever make a mark a minuscule minority whose eyes will have the spark I’m a nobody and everybody knows it everybody knows it, and nobody cares I walk around this town and all the girls can smell the loser wafting off me and they all know very well that I’m a little nothing and can’t help them advance their climb upon the social ladder I don’t have a chance I’m a nobody and everybody knows it everybody knows it, and nobody cares nobody cares about my day nobody cares about my evening nobody cares about my weblog nobody cares what I believe in no one cares about my hopes or my regrets no one cares to look at pictures of my pets when such a small percentage will ever make a mark a minuscule minority whose eyes will have the spark I’m a nobody and everybody knows it everybody knows it, and nobody cares

if you go out at night don’t put your hoodie on and whatever you do don’t brandish skittles, son if at all possible try not to be black some poor person might feel threatened by your presence and have to take you out in cold-blooded self-defense only standing their ground chasing you down and if you think that we live in a post-racial world then you’re wrong and it’s hard to know if we will ever all just get along will we ever get rid of the George Zimmermans of the world? I don’t know I hope so
9.
Body-snatchers took your skin ripped you out and they moved in now I don’t know what to do it still looks like you but it’s not you you know that I have tried my best to exorcise them from your flesh but in spite of all that I have done I fear they might have won ’cause it’s not you they got you and wiped your memory they must have caught you and shot you with their mind-erasing beam right on the spot you forgot you only want to be with me this is the only possible explanation
10.
You’ve got a big, fancy vocab, oh yeah, but I’m just not impressed by the ethos of your paradigm. You can’t intimidate me--even if you can out-debate me. You’ve got a bachelors in business, unlike me. I’ve got a dusty old associate of arts degree. You still can’t intimidate me, even as you smugly berate me. I’m not too smart, but I have a strong sense of the difference in right and wrong. In your pretentious arguments, a high percent of glib nonsense, you might start with ALL CAPS before too long. Hey hey hey, the things you say, you would only say to me with internet anonymity. Don’t get me wrong, it’s so great that we can discuss with those who would otherwise never speak with us. We don’t run in the same circles. But you’re ruining it by being a jerkell. Just drop the dickish superior attitude and you would receive a bucket of gratitude. What we really need here is a healthy exchange of ideas.

this is all far over your head best left to the experts instead they went to all the fancy schools sired in elite gene pools you’ve got enough to worry about turn up the TV, drown it out maintain a minimum rage once in a while rattle your cage you are part of the great bewildered herd your foolish voice does not need to be heard too powerful for you to face it they know they’ve got you just complacent enough you are part of the great bewildered herd your naive voice does not need to be heard too powerful for you to face it they know they’ve got you just complacent enough

I’m struggling a bit to keep the demons at bay and today’s another bad one it’s no big deal, you take ’em with the good ones, they say it’s been a minute since I’ve had one forces at an uneasy truce the dark side starts busting loose gotta get, gotta get a grip keep it together, don’t slip I slink through life just hoping no one figures out I am a complete sham of a person some days I think I’m getting better at this whole life thing then it seems to go and worsen as a human, a total fraud good thing no one will ever hear this song passing under the radar passes for success but I bet I’m not alone with this feeling there will always be those of us who never fit in and I bet I’m not alone with this feeling passing underneath the radar passes for a win
13.
I remember the times when I sat all alone inside my room drinking heavily, eating crap wrapped up in gloom and doom now the clouds have all melted away metaphorical bright, sunny day everything since you’ve come my way is comin’ up Milhouse when I was single my friends got to see me a lot around the town but it was quite a mixed blessing depressing as I was to be around now I’m happy most of the time me and the Waves walk on sunshine everything since you have been mine is comin’ up Milhouse ba dum ba dum ba da da da ba dum ba dum ba da da da ba dum ba dum ba da da da comin’ up Milhouse

State-Sanctioned Murder Is it efficient? No. Is it effective? No. Does it deter crime? No. Statistics clearly show. Is it proportional? No. Is it used fairly? No. It’s applied so much more to those who are black and/or poor [chorus] Is it expensive? Yes. Is it barbaric? Yes. Is it a good prosecutorial tool? Yeah, you’ll plead to shit that you didn’t do. Is it irreversible? Yes. Is it infallible? Hell no. Is retribution worth it to you to kill innocent people too? [chorus]

about

"This fourteen track album includes everything that I could hope for in a solid pop punk record...It is one of those amazing records that you almost thirst for upon waking up in the morning."
-- For the Love of Punk

"While 'at a loss' may seem like par for the course when it comes to The Capitalist Kids’ brisk and catchy pop punk styling, below its surface this latest LP is brimming with new ideas existing as further evidence of their continued evolution. Continuing the tradition of providing pop punk love songs and sardonic socio-political snark, The Capitalist Kids have managed to maintain continuity while still upping their game on this release...pop punk perfection."
-- Ovrld.com

"...alternating between perfectly sweet love songs and perfectly insightful songs of social critique. The major difference this time around is the addition of a second guitar player which helps to make the melodies that much more infectious."
--Grave Mistake

"It’s a pop punk gem of a record, with quick guitar riffs rushing forward while melodies flourish in each and every song."
-- Austin Town Hall

"Absolutely recommended."
-- IBuyWayTooManyRecords.com

"catchy choruses, singalong melodies, and clever lyrics...the Capitalist Kids also take on political and societal hot-button issues like racism, gender identity, wage inequality, Internet trolls, and capital punishment."
--Jersey Beat

"Pop punk energy seeps from every track of 'at a loss' with melody coming out the ying yang. When you dig a little deeper and listen to the lyrics you'll find some clever, thoughtful and biting goodness."
--Tales of the Salty Bag

"The big upside here is that The Capitalist Kids are also great at stringing together tunes about the love, happiness and upsides in life that exist in spite of all the fucked up shit."
--No Idea

"A release that is simply awesome and you can feel it from the very beginning of the record."
--Palabra Y Sonido/Word And Sound

"Such an excellent album from start to finish. I prefer my socio- & political commentary in the form of super-catchy, well-executed punk songs so this album is absolute perfection."
